The Channel Line-up and which Satellite a Channel is on, is subject to change... The Coverage Maps will help to realize what Channels are available in the given coverage area of each Satellite footprint...
#1 When Setting up a Tripod - I stress this Loudly Make sure the vertical mounting pipe on the Tripod is completely level or all the other setup markers are off. It will make your setup go a lot more smoothly in finding the signal... If the pipe is level and the elevation marker is correct, you can literally sweep across the horizontal plain in the direction of the Satellite, which you found by using the satellite finder app, and pick up the signal and then begin your tuning... If you're sloppy on the leveling the rest will go accordingly... 40 years of experience tells me this... Being proficient is being efficient... As the carpenter says, measure twice and cut once...
ShawDirect Satellite Location Finder - Winegard App Use the Winegard App to visually locate the actual Satellites in the sky, assuring there are no obstructions... Clear line of sight with no trees, buildings or mountains blocking the signal... It has to be 100% clean line of sight...
Tripod Set-up Using Signal Finder Though this is not with ShawDirect, I will create a video soon Showing an actual ShawDirect System being tuned in... However it does show how you need to adjust the dial in order to peek the signal... The Satellite Signal Meter doesn't identify which Satellite Signal you've located,.. The Satellite Finder will pick up all the available Satellites in your line of sight...
That's why it's important to have your TV screen on, displaying the ShawDirect Receiver Signal Level, (
Example of Screen View) The Signal Level will only increase on this screen when you are on the correct Satellite... Go to Channel (212 or 213 or 299) To find the Signal Level on the Status Technical Screen by Hitting Options, Scrolling to the far right Icon, "Status" Screen and hit Enter "Twice"...
On Line C Signal Level (Tuner 1) you'll see the Channel in the Brackets (213) if that's the channel you chose to test, the next number is the actual Signal level (213):0, ECB -10,0 db
... Those numbers will change as you peek the Signal by adjusting the dish... You'll want to reach a signal level of 70 plus, hopefully signal 80-97 and the db level from 5-10.7 range in order to receive enough Signal to receive a picture... HDMI requires a lot of signal, otherwise you'll have pixilation or no picture... When on this screen you can change the channels, and it'll display in the brackets for example go to 299 and them you'll see (299) and the signal and dB levels will reflect what's on that channel...
When you have signal, tighten the nuts and bolts on the dish, then gently push or pull on all four edges, top, bottom, left, right, one at a time while someone is monitoring the signal level to see if it goes up or down as you bend the dish gently... When you've determined the signals goes up or down, when flexing the dish in a certain direction, simply loosen the bolts enough and gently maneuver it in that direction and re-tighten the bolts, Do this until you're satisfied with the Signal Level... Vola, you are now the hero of a satellite tuner- upper... :) You will become proficient if you persist, I can't help with more info if you are a giver-upper or short on patience... So hang in there, you can do it... Read and re-read the info, just like life and technology today, there is a learning curve... I've said this story a few times, a few years back, I had an 80 year old woman who bought a tripod and dish, and I asked, are you able to set this up, she looked me in the eyes and said, "sonny, just because I'm in my 80s do you think I can't do this, I'm quite capable, and off she went... :)
